What does net 30 mean?

Net 30 is a payment term on an invoice. It means the client must pay the full amount within 30 days of the invoice date. "Net" means the total due after any discounts. Net 15, Net 60 and the other terms work the same way with a different number of days.

How to calculate net 30

  1. Start from the invoice date

Use the date printed on the invoice, not the date the work was done or the date the client opened it.

  2. Add 30 days

Count 30 calendar days, starting the day after the invoice date. Weekends and holidays count.

  3. That day is the due date

The client must pay by the end of that day. For example, an invoice dated March 2, 2026 on Net 30 is due on April 1, 2026.

Calendar days or business days?

Net terms count calendar days, so weekends and holidays are included. Count business days only when your agreement says so, for example "payment within 30 business days". The calculator skips Saturdays and Sundays in business-day mode; it does not know your public holidays, so add those yourself if your agreement excludes them.

Which payment terms should a freelancer use?

Shorter terms get you paid sooner. Many freelancers use Net 7 or Net 15 for small clients and accept Net 30 or longer only when a larger company requires it. Whatever you choose, put it in your contract and on every invoice, and send the invoice the day the work is done. For more, read invoice payment terms explained.

Frequently asked questions

What does net 30 mean on an invoice?

Net 30 means the client must pay the full invoice amount within 30 days of the invoice date. "Net" means the total amount due, after any discounts.

How do you calculate net 30?

Add 30 calendar days to the invoice date. Day 1 is the day after the invoice date. An invoice dated March 2, 2026 on Net 30 is due on April 1, 2026.

Does net 30 include weekends and holidays?

Yes. Net 30 means 30 calendar days unless your agreement says business days. If the terms say "30 business days", skip Saturdays, Sundays and, if agreed, public holidays.

What if the due date falls on a weekend?

The terms on the invoice decide. Many businesses pay on the next business day, but the invoice is still due on the date you calculated unless your agreement says otherwise. The calculator can show both.

What is Net 30 EOM?

Net 30 EOM means payment is due 30 days after the end of the month in which the invoice is dated. An invoice dated any day in March on Net 30 EOM is due on 30 April.

Is net 30 the same as 30 days from receipt?

Not always. Net 30 normally counts from the invoice date. If you want the count to start when the client receives the invoice, write "30 days from receipt" in your terms, and send the invoice the same day.

When the due date passes

Send a reminder the day after the due date, then follow up. Use the payment reminder email templates and the overdue invoice emails by days late. Or let Due On Time send the reminders for you on a paid plan. Compare plans.
